UPDATE TO POST: We just returned from a week in Jamaica, and I hate to say it, but Coppertone Sport is 100% off our list. My husband continued to use the lotion version of this sunscreen and by the end of the trip his white swim trunks were a lovely color of rusty tan. We will be moving on to a new brand, which is a bit concerning since the last time my husband used anything other than Coppertone he broke out in a rash. I will keep you updated on what we try and what we like! Recommendations always welcome!
When you start looking at sunscreen’s to buy this spring and summer, I recommend you avoid the Coppertone Sport High Performance Clear Continuous Spray. Not because it doesn’t work, but because it is sticky and will ruin everything you own.
I picked this because of the 100 SPF rating (my go to rating these days) and because of the “clear” comment. While yes, the spray is clear and you don’t have that horrible white coating on your skin, the sticky film that it does put on your skin is absolutely disgusting. When I would run with this product on, I felt like my sweat glands couldn’t work because my skin couldn’t breath under the thick coating of the sunscreen. After applying it, my hands would stick to anything I touched. Additionally, all of our white linens started to turn brown. Apparently the formula isn’t “clear” as much as it is “tanned” and that coloring will rub off on your running shorts, white t-shirts, golf shorts, bed linens and anything else white. Rendering all of your whites a lovely rusty yellowish white.
As a family we mostly wear Coppertone products (see post on Coppertone Kids). So I’m not advocating against all things Coppertone. It is just this clear sport spray that doesn’t offer a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
